Story
A girl who can see the colors in people’s hearts joins a band with two other people. Naoko Yamada’s fifth feature film. I loved this film. It had a certain warmth to it: the warmth that Totsuko conveyed through her honest appreciations, the warmth that is built on new friendships, the warmth of forgiveness and acceptance, the warmth of spending time with loved ones away from the disturbances of life, and the warmth of creating art. I think of the prayer Totsuko recited: “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” Life is hard, and perhaps it is best that, like Totsuko’s free-spirited, color-seeing self, we too somehow find within ourselves the serenity, courage, and wisdom to get through it.
